This is a cartoon that was submitted to the newspaper after the editorial page editor said that we could be as hard as we wanted on the public utility. When he saw this cartoon he said we can't accuse them of being criminals. The final cartoon was much watered down showing the utility sick in bed with all concerned (citizens, state officials, etc.) hovering around the hospital bed as docs, nurses and visitors. |
This was published in the Charlottesville Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Virginia. The idea was to juxtapose the assemblymen with the clowns to infer similar qualities of seriousness and effectiveness (or lack there of). The occasion was that of the Virginia General Assembly and he Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Baily Circus finishing their terms in Richmond on or about the same date. |
