So, obviously my choice is clear. Trump is a businessman, who like them all, has much to lose when things go wrong at home and around the world. This means that Trump will be, actually 'is', a nationalist. It means he will defend American business interests. It means as well that he will concern himself with race relations and law and order in our homeland.
What is the first role of a national government? Defense of the homeland on several levels. What is the second role of government? The non-authoritarian maintenance of national stability. What is the third role of government? Preservation of the people's' rights . . . not the rights of immigrants coming in illegally or those of refugees given sanctuary while demanding we change to their laws. Government is not there to protect the world's victims, though we, as Americans, want to help. That is the role of our charities. Government's role is its own citizens' safety.
In that vein, the Democratic candidate, ignored the danger and thus sacrificed American live and then claimed that no Americans were lost in Libya.
But all these valid roles of government enumerated above are very consistent with Trump's background, interests, and personality. Is he self-centered and egotistical? Perhaps. So was almost every man who held the job of president to some extent. A strong self image and confidence is a requirement of the job. Do you know what a fighter pilot goes through and what it takes to make the decisions they make? Though perhaps nice guys later in life, while in that role, some guys are jackasses . . . . requirement of the job for some. Better a live jerk than a dead nice guy. The presidency is probably a bit like that.
